The Famous Plaza Mayor in Salamanca.
Sarah and Sonia in the Plaza Mayor.
The Convent of San Esteban.
A shell mark on the road to let you know that you are on one of the paths of the Camino de Santiago.
Inside the Cathedral (there's the "new" and the "old" cathedral - they are attached - the "new" one was built in the 15th century by Ferdinand because they had run out of room in the "old" one built in the 12th century)
Sarah n Sonia n a view of the cathedral(s) from an upper patio.
Sarah in the courtyard inside the Convent of San Esteban.
We bothered cloistered nuns to get some almond cookies... So many convents, so little time.
The famous university founded in 1218. The oldest in Spain, one of the oldest in Europe (there are some in Italy and the UK that are older). Unamuno taught here and had his house nearby. Too bad you have to pay through the nose for a tour to go inside the main grounds... so we enjoyed its beauty from the outside.
The House of Shells. Rodrigo Arias de Maldonado, the nobleman who built this house was a knight of the Order of Santiago. The scallop shells represent Santiago (St. James) and the pilgrims who go on the Camino de Santiago. There are more than 300 shells on the house and it was built in the late 15th century.
