Agua y Vida en Segovia

Segovia

Walking in to the old city from the bus station, this is the first church that you see - the Iglesia de San Millán.

The 2000 year old Roman aqueduct that could still function if need be. It runs through the middle of the city and it has no mortar or any other substance keeping the stones held in place. It used to bring water from the Rio Frio in the mountains into the city. The danger posed to the aqueduct right now is pollution and the vibrations caused by traffic... Here's a site describing the aqueduct and all the other monuments you'll be seeing pictures of... You just have to scroll to your right on the webpage to see it.

Aqueduct and me...

Aqueduct and the center of the city below...

Nearing the end of the visible aqueduct in the city.

The main cathedral.

The Plaza Mayor (main plaza).

The Alcázar (royal palace) where the Catholic Kings, Ferdinand and Isabel, lived and ruled... Christopher Columbus came here to ask for money to go on his little journey (I think), and Walt Disney used this castle as inspiration for the Cinderella castle in Disneyland... It's really hard to get a good panorama of the castle though... so look at the website for better pics.

The throne room inside the castle.

Ashlee (friend in nursing program) peeking over the castle walls.

A view from the castle tower (the Torre de Juan II)

View from the castle tower...

Little alleyway in the Jewish quarter, the Judería.

Typical facade on the Segovian houses... they are all decorated somewhat like this....

Amazing picts. You really are getting to travel every weekend, huh? How do the other students feel about the program? Are you mainly hanging with the Americans, or do the two groups mix a lot? How are those who don't speak as much Spanish as you do getting by?

Us - we went to a party hosted by a Colombian friend this weekend - and you'll never believe it, but Chris danced the night away (with me in tow). Next weekend is my birthday weekend, so I think we're planning to have a pumpkin carving party.

Lots of Love!
